Yesterday was the last day of school, with students, anyway. Today was a work day, and we could stay as long as we needed to. I was proud of myself for sleeping in an hour, and getting to work at 8:00, rather than 7.

I didn’t have much to do, so that left me time to hang out with my friend Rebecca, and help her out a bit. Well, we talked more than I helped, but it was nice to relax and chat, knowing we didn’t have kids coming in from recess or anywhere else.

That got me home pretty early, so I had a sandwich and relaxed in the backyard with a book. A quick visit with my daughter, and phone call with my son, and I was back to my book, as well as watching baby birds leave the nest!

And then I was done. Apparently I forgot how to just relax…

I repotted a plant, cleaned out one kitchen cupboard, organized my tea collection, then baked a batch of banana muffins. Oh, I also made some tea to ice for tomorrow, and a quick batch of iced tea to enjoy today.

Perhaps I should try easing into “relaxation mode”. Teachers go about 150 mph the last few weeks of school, and when that final bell rings, “teaching mode” comes to a complete halt. Maybe it’s like an astronaut re-entering Earth’s atmosphere; adjustments need to be made. Probably not.

I do have plans for the summer, which will keep me busy, for sure. So I guess I will enjoy the downtime, and look forward to a family vacation, a few girls’ trips, walking, coffee dates, a mother/daughter high tea, and researching my new book. Toss in crafting and yoga, and it’s going to be a great summer. Once I open myself to it…

Alternate titles for this blog:

If You Give a Mouse A Cookie, or Squirrel!: I do prefer the literary reference, but what does it mean? I didn’t intend to clean a cupboard, but I had a yen for iced tea, the selection was a mess, and clearly organization was necessary. So off on that tangent I went, just like the mouse. It does look pretty great, though!

Titles are important, as you know. One item on my author’s to do list is to create a catchy title for the next book in my series, set in the California Gold Rush period. If you have any ideas, please reach out!

Until next time…
