I have been teaching elementary students for just about 30 years. My primary focus has been fourth and fifth grades. Before that I taught preschool while getting my BA and teaching credential from San Jose State University. Many years into my teaching career I earned my Masters degree in Education, Integrated Teaching through the Arts. It was be best thing I could have done to renew my commitment and enthusiasm for teaching.
The best thing about my job? Everyday is different, and I continue to LOVE it! Teaching remotely for over a year, spanning two different school years, truly sparked my creativity. So far I have completed one manuscript, currently being published by Archway Publishing. I have also started planning the second in what I hope to be a multi-book series, as well as an article for an online education magazine. Writing my blog seems to satisfy my daily urge to write, since the school year is still in session. Still loving my day job!
I have always loved writing, and enjoy the writing workshop lessons in my classroom. Most of my storytelling is oral, as I share ideas with my students, both entertaining and engaging them. I occasionally get the chance to write my ideas down and use them as teaching moments in my classroom. I think it's time to begin recording more of them. I am so lucky to have an incredibly supportive family! In January 2022 my husband Bob and I will celebrate our 30th anniversary. It's important to not take any moments for granted, we have learned. We have been blessed with two amazing children. Alyssa is a paramedic-firefighter for Berkeley Fire Department. She is engaged and planning to marry Garrett in September 2022. Ryan is completing his final semester at Point Loma University in San Diego. I was worried he would enjoy the beach too much and never come home. But he has plans to move back next summer. Along with our two cats, one grand-dog and all of my students, we work to celebrate every day in the most positive way possible.
